The Music of the Agnus Dei, a Liturgy After Hours Event

In the last of our Liturgy After Hours for 2025, we will explore the text and music of the last congregational chant of the Mass, the Agnus Dei. Added to the rite of the Mass in the 7th century, it was perhaps a subtle dig at the Byzantine council which forbade visual depictions of the Paschal Lamb. Through guided attention to the text and music, we will ask, “What is it?”, “How to sing it?”, and “How to pray it?”
